"The Big Picture" was an American documentary television program which aired from 1951 to 1964. As an official work of the United States government it was produced by the US Army, many of its topical themes ranged from combating international socialism, the spread and ideals of democracy, pro-American propaganda and the "Free World". Hungary, a great God-blessed country established in 896 A.D. in Central Europe as a grand princedom, is the first gate and bastion to 'true European' high civilization where freedom, independence and liberty is held sacred. Hungary has saved Hungary, Europe, civilization and the world on 5 occasions: I.) the repulsion of the world-embracing universal Mongol invasion in 1242, 2.) the expulsion of the Ottoman Turks in 1699 3.), the rollback of communism in 1990 4.), solutions for the European migrant invasion crisis (2015), and 5.) Global Warming. In terms of decisive macro-historical significance for freedom and liberty and a good, solid and promising future for posterity, charmed Hungary is the proud possessor of History's equivalent of 5 World Cup titles won. One of the many great reasons, Europe, has been the "center of the world, Earth, and the Universe" since antiquity.

"Keep Cool with Cal" -One of the great unsung American Presidents and leaders of all-time, Calvin Coolidge (Plymouth Notch, VT July 4, 1872 - January 5, 1933 Northhampton, VA) who presided over the impeccably great times of the 'Roaring Twenties'- a truly free, happy, buoyant economic, social, creative boom times of 1920s America.

The coronation of Maria Theresa 1741 in Pozsony, Hungary attended by a mighty entourage of Hungarian nobility and proud Magyar hussars. The hussar (huszar, Hungarian trans: 'the price of twenty') were the most famous, elite, widespread and universally-adopted light cavalry of all-time in History. Seminal Hungarian inventions include: the sabre, the world-famous hussar, the stirrup for riders, beef jerky, and the post-feudal modern national standing professional army.
The American US Calvary was co-founded by the Pole Casimir Pulaski and the Hungarian Michael Kovats, together known as the "Founding Fathers of the US Cavalry." Kovat's swift, hard-hitting, crackerjack forces during the American Revolutionary War were described by British war correspondents as "the best cavalry the Yankees (rebels) ever had."

Who Do Chess Pieces Truly Represent? How Chess is Really a Hungarian Game, and how Hungary Invented the Modern Military.

Armor panoply and shield of a professional Hungarian national mercenary army 'Black Legionnaire' in a permanent museum in Hungary. The highly performing Hungary army and navy achieved 52 victories, 1 draw, and suffered only 12 losses (80.77 % winning percentage) in all battlefield actions and siege operations from 1458 to 1488; so thorough was King Matthias' domination of the opposition that from 1482 to 1488 the Hungarian army juggernaut rolled to 17 consecutive victories. The truly triumphal zenith years of 1482-1490 was an era of complete peace achieved amid a magnificent two-hundred year old Hungarian Golden Age. Two years later, Christopher Columbus discovered the "New World", 'the Americas' in 1492.

The game of chess is a universal game of near unfathomable variations, complexity, incomparable grace and elegance that requires an astute imagination, mental finesse and lifelong learning. Chess is wrapped in ancient mysteries, magic and enigmas and affords thinking and aesthetic pleasure to billions around the world. One of the most intriguing and metaphysical questions of the game of chess is to ask who the chess pieces themselves are and who are they allegorically representing. Put another way, who best typifies and characterizes the chess pieces if drawn from History itself. Who really are the 'White pieces' and who really are the 'Black pieces'?

Many things are certain in the quest to best answer this question. Certainly the traditional pieces themselves are based and modeled on Late Medieval or Pre-Modern Renaissance or early Baroque feudalism, aristocracy and kingship. More importantly, the King piece itself is signified by a cross that reveals that the two opposing sides in the game are Christian monarchies or kingdoms.
The King of Hungary always rides a white horse.

So what party, nation, country, kingdom or faction in Europe do the two side represent? We need to travel back into History to find the appropriate answer to this fascinating and eternally daunting question. Since both sides are European Christian monarchies, we need to travel back to Europe to the Late Middle Ages/Renaissance in the infancy of gun-power. The reason for this is that chess does not include artillery nor cannon; we need arrive at the most advanced time before the mass introduction of field artillery (the 16th century) and before the fading out of a most sensational and extravagant cavalier-knightly era when chivalry was in full flower--this leads us to one unquestionable conclusion, the pieces themselves are from the 15th century or before; the pieces themselves are hierarchical, historical Christian kingdom faction warrior-aristocratic elite characters.

We are in search of the most apt description that illustrates the White and Black side's best qualities and best answers that question: who was the most successful, most daring and adventurous, the most glorious, most experienced and equally prolific in quantity of victorious battles and decisive quality of those victorious actions in the 15th century?

As the game itself is played at a very high and ethereal level by grandmasters and computers, we are assuming that both White and Black pieces were remarkable with cogent offensive and defensive bandwidth on the battlefields of the 1400s. In short, we are seeking inside the Late Middle Ages/early Renaissance, the most Alexandrian, the most exemplar Periclean, most Nietzschean Übermensch Dionysus-like leaders of Olympian virtues of the 15th century, the most ambitious and the victorious Caesar-esque personalities who graced European history of the century who poured forth a quantity of high quality actions in battle with a extraordinarily high winning percentage to give us the unabridged mythical story of chess itself.

The stuff that medieval, fairly-tale dreams are made of -: the united realms of Louis the Great of Hungary in the 14th century (1300s), a European superpower that also encompassed one-half of Italy.

It is the mid to late 1300s in Europe, and Hungary stands as the vastest, the strongest, most prosperous, and most secure realm. The Hungarian forint gold-currency was the de facto currency in Europe. Central and Eastern Europe have narrowly escaped the plague sweeping the world. Hungary was a ' superpower ', and the 14th century belonged to her, it was a great ' Hungarian Century '.

The year is 1437. The old Hungarian King, Sigismund, who was also the Holy Roman Emperor, thus adjoining the political destinies of Hungary and the Empire in an arrangement so large that it was second only to Charlemagne's Europe for size and scope, is nearing the end of his reign.

The promising young general, John Hunyadi, has just defeated the grand Sultan Murad II, by lifting the siege of hard-pressed Semendria on Hungary's southern frontiers. The old King was soon to pass, a fifty year old reign ended and political anarchy set about the country.

Hungary then was thriving as a major power and wealthy kingdom as it faced the brunt of the southern Ottoman Turkish attacks and factional feuding in the high aristocracy and court. By the end of the century, Hungary would reclaim its ' superpower ' status in European affairs due to the efforts of two very competent, able and extraordinarily talented personalities, a father-and-son succession, the 15th century also was a ' Hungarian Century '.

In answering the question, we do know this for certain, the White King was a Christian, an "Athlete of Christ" who commanded 'white knights' on his campaigns and obviously took his pleasures on the battle-field as a prolifically successful tactician and commander.

"The White Knight of Christendom"-Governor-Regent, the original 'Generalissimo' of the 1400s, John Hunyadi, arguably the greatest crusader of them all, undoubtedly the greatest military field commander of the 15th century, outstanding and iconic military opponent of the Turks, unquestionably solid administrator, military innovator, seminal visionary as a re-organizer of status quo, antique feudal European military system from a feudal-levy conscript base to a flexible, professional, standing national military, first introducer of the light horse (hussars) on a grand scale, veritable master of the battlefield in offensive and defensive strategy using mobility and war-wagon tactics, exceptional organizer and leader of men who led successful crushing, liberating crusades in 1437, 1441, 1442, the famous and comprehensive 'Long Campaign' in 1443-1444 that nearly reached Adrianople (the enemy capital), 1454 and 1456, the later being a miracle-laden triumph over Mohammed the Conqueror. John Hunyadi's battlefield record stands at 14 victories in pitches battles, and 3 losses (82.35 winning percentage). He masterfully obtained 3 victories (1437, Jan 2, 1444, 1456) vs. 2 defeats against the Grand Army of the sultan's imperial army itself. On September 6 1442, south of Transylvania, in Wallachia by the Jalomita River, Hunyadi's meteoric fame and champion name became legendary throughout Europe. He achieved the un-achievable of bygone times and broke the myth of Turkish invincibility forever with a hitherto unexampled performance in European military annals: with only 12,000-15,000 Szekler and Hungarian irregulars Hunyadi inflicted a resounding "Turkish Agincourt" catastrophe and emphatic rout of a 81,000 highly trained Turkish invasion force. His extraordinary Marathon-like victory in 1456 in Belgrade is European history's seminal military occasion of the 15th century, its attainment universally celebrated every noon by the tolling of Catholic church bells throughout the world.

A memorial in Wallachia (today southern Romania) to an extraordinary and stunning Christian European smashing success, Hunyadi's second greatest battle ever (Sept. 6, 1442): on this hallowed field, Hunyadi's small, compact, highly motivated 15,000 irregular Szekler and Hungarian army completely burst through enemy lines and overthrows a vast and formidable Turkish 81,000 army reinforced by thousands of elite Janissaries, and executes a headlong rout of the enemy so emphatic that John Hunyadi's name becomes legendary across Christendom -- Hunyadi's triumph over one of the largest invasion forces ever assembled and arrayed against Transylvania was an stupendous 'Agincourt'-level and quality victory.
